Abstract

This case report highlights the presentation of a 70-year-old female, Mrs. X, who came to our psychiatry OPD with acute onset symptoms of suspiciousness and confusion. There was a history of seizures, including a recent episode of focal seizures with secondary generalisation three days prior. On psychiatric assessment, the patient appeared disoriented, with signs of paranoia and cognitive disturbances. Given the complexity of her symptoms and history of seizures, a CT scan of the brain was performed to rule out neurological causes. The scan revealed widespread miliary neurocysticercosis, a parasitic infection that contributed to both her psychiatric and neurological symptoms. The report underscores the importance of neuroimaging in cases with ambiguous psychiatric presentations, and patients of neurocysticercosis can present with psychiatric symptoms.
